Radford Park to be handed back to the Council?

questionYou may have read in the  Herald  (6th January 2010) that the Civic Society was passing the Radford Park Arboretum over to the City Council.

“It looks like all our good work is going to come to an end, Mr Fenn said. Most of our members are in their late 70s or early 80s and don’t want to take on the committee responsibility. The lack of interest in the Plymstock District Civic Society is a symptom of the times. ” He said the arboretum would probably be handed back to the council to look after… See The Plymouth Herald story here

However this report is not correct. The Radford Park Arboretum Committee state that they are determined to continue for the next 35 years at least, although some more volunteers for the work party are always welcome. This news has understandably upset some families with memorial trees in the park.  Please add a comment to this post if you are interested in supporting this group.

  1. Father Terry Fleming says:

Have just retired from being parish priest at St. Margaret Mary’s R.C. church, Quarry Park Rd. I joined the committee of RHLPA in order to be more involved in the locality but within months it fizzled out as you know! I am now interested in joining the Plymstock Civic body and being involved in the arboretum which I overlook from my bungalow. (17 Dean Park Rd., Tel: 401335.)
